Do you want to get more out of the garden you already have?

Then come along to the Master Gardener course – a practical, hands-on course which teaches people to become gardeners – and gardeners to become master gardeners. This course is accessible for every body.

PDC With Rowe Morrow at the Quaker Settlement, Whanganui.

This will run in two one week courses, one at the end of May (go to
http://www.quaker.org.nz/events/full-settlement-programme to download flier) and one at the end of November (dates to be confirmed soon).

The second half of the course will be available to people who have participated in the first half.

Learn vital practical knowledge and skills for self-reliant and community-resilient lifestyles.

This hands-on workshop will explore several techniques for solar and low-energy cooking, including: parabolic solar cookers, solar box ovens, straw boxes, and more. We will show off models we’ve tried and discuss the benefits of each model. We will send you off with templates to build your own cooker at home.

$10 Castlecliff Residents, $15 all others. Kids are free.

This course requires pre-registration.

Do you have the desire to start a land-based business that is resilient to climate change, energy decline, economic restructuring and peak everything? The NorthTec Horticulture Dept is offering a “Sustainable Rural Development Level 4” in Silverdale with Transition Town organisers and tutors Gawain Sharp and Betsy Kettle. Gawain has a business planning background and Betsy has experience designing organic permaculture/ horticulture properties.

This course is designed to provide the 'hows' and 'whys' of human-scale permaculture. Slow and thorough, it provides plenty of practical examples, hands-on learning experiences and time for questions and answers.

With an on site community garden to view examples.
Course includes a guided tour of the Sustainable Backyard
Topics covered will be the basics to siteing a vegetable garden and maintaining it with organic systems.
Composting, wormfarming & liquid fertilizer,
No-dig gardens & mulching,
