Limits to Growth: The 30-Year Update, by Donella H. Meadows, Jorgen Randers, Dennis L. Meadows
Published at the start of 2004, this update to the 1972 'Limits To Growth'is surprisingly upbeat and readable.
I say "surprisingly" because the message is that, as a civilisation, we have overshoot the earth's carrying capacity and the most likely outcome is a steep decline.
The book also spends a lot of time discussing the computer program (World3) used to model our possible futures. (BTW, this program is available to download...)
So, for a book promising doom & gloom, and that spells out in some detail the assumptions that underline their predictions, as well as the shortcomings of any computer simulation, it is an upbeat book with a wealth of information.
The original 'LTG' was at the forefront of the whole movement towards a sustainable future. Read it and be the wiser.
