Finally Live

I wish I had blogged the Go Live....but, funnily enough, I had other things on my mind!

Anyway, here is a recap and some post go live stats.

Going Live in Wanganui

Feedback was pretty good at the website demo session at the annual hui and so Myk (Website Redevelopment Project Manager Extraordinaire) convinced me to to commit to going live the next day. As a developer I was saying I needed a couple more weeks......i's needed to be dotted and t's needed to be crossed etc.  But it made sense to go with the momentum and energy generated by the hui and go live fast.

What hadn't occured to me was that we would be in Wanganui the next day visiting Lisa - and I had no idea what the coverage for my vodem would be - as it turns out, coverage was pretty crap.

However, after some extreeeeeemly slow back ups and file transfers the site was live at 2am.....except that the password protect from the test site seemed to have migrated to the live site directory.....so no one would be able to see it! Nothing I could do at that point but swap back to the old site, email support at our domain hosts about the password protect and call it a night. I got word at 11am the following day from our domain hosts that they had removed the password protect so I started the now somewhat more abbreviated go live process again.

Myk and Lisa convinced me that coverage would be better at a cafe in town, so I was forced to have brunch (yes, life is hard ;) while trying to go live again.....the eggs benedict were awesome but unfortunately the coverage was not and we ended up having to walk up to a high point in town in order to get sufficient coverage for me to swap the sites.

So at around noon on the 2nd June -  finally we were live!

Some post go live stats:

- 73 user accounts created so far- kia kaha koutou!

- 24 pieces of high level content created by users

- 35 comments from users on high level content

- only one piece of spam which was quickly picked up by me on my RSS feed and deleted

- 145 "File not Found" errors to do with RSS - this has been fixed - please click on the RSS icon on the site again to fix your feed if you are still getting these

All in all not bad for a first week!

I have added a "Contact the webmaster" on the footer of each page, so please use this to let me know about any broken links or any other errors/issues that you have with the site....include a brief description of what you were doing or clicked on to help me out please.

But mainly, just keep using the site! Keep blogging, posting to the forum etc.....we all love hearing about what each other are up to, what we are thinking about, the challenges we face as permaculturists, the events we are organising and the yeilds we have to share.....keep the website lively with our energy and it will feed us too!

Nga mihi mahana
