In this one day workshop Murray will cover:  fruit tree selection, rootstock choice, siting/spacing & planting, pollination, pest control & companion planting, training systems & techniques, form pruning, shaping & selection of appropriate wood for fruiting, summer pruning, frame working older trees for easy access & improved production, grafting, selection of wood & storage,  techniques for nursery production & top working older trees, general after-care & maintenance of trees.

This workshop is part of the Auckland Permaculture Workshop (APW) Permaculture Design Certificate programme.

In small groups or solo, you will complete and present a design project. The aim of the project is to apply permaculture design to a specific site or proposal, while making use of the knowledge and processes learnt during the course.

We have had excellent response from teachers and students from Year 1 through Year 13 to our adaptive approach to integrating permaculture principles and practices into The New Zealand Curriculum. The workshop shares the innovative projects we've designed and implemented so far and helps participants design their own projects for their local schools.

In Permaculture we aim to build holistic systems: ecologically, socially and spiritually complete.
This one day workshop concentrates on the people side, on how people can generate a future of cooperation and resilience. It draws on the life skills needed to work in partnership with others. It is the goal of this workshop to acknowledge difference and diversity and to work with these tensions as a way to transform relationships.

Thoughtful design and timely management of gardens can yield an abundance of food with little very little ongoing maintenance. The productive and attractive vegetable gardens at Solscape Eco Retreat will be used as an example of the successful application of a design/management system developed over the last decade by organic farmer Nelson Lebo. Some of these strategies were adopted at Rainbow Valley Farm - world famous permaculture property - after this workshop was presented there in 2010.

The first documents the highly successful eco-thrifty renovation of a villa in Wanganui, and the second applies the eco-thrifty design principles to a potential "do up" at Solscape Eco Retreat. The workshop is designed to be highly practical by offering dozens of examples of eco-thrifty strategies and potential strategies.

We have had excellent response from teachers and students from Year 1 through Year 13 to our adaptive approach to integrating permaculture principles and practices into The New Zealand Curriculum. The workshop shares the innovative projects we've designed so far and helps participants design their own projects for their local schools.

We have had excellent response from teachers and students from Year 1 through Year 13 to our adaptive approach to integrating permaculture principles and practices into The New Zealand Curriculum.
